The Story of Asa McAndrew Converted Sleigh
The holiday season is a time for families to pile into their car, van or SUV for trips to grandmothers for warm reunions, sharing of gifts and time with loved ones. For most of us it’s an event we look forward to and handle joyously. Not so much for the McAndrew family of Scranton, PA.
The McAndrews son Asa, age 12, was born 6-weeks premature with Cerebral Palsy. As an infant and toddler, Asa’s traveling needs could be accommodated with a traditional car seat.
But, as he aged and grew it was no longer a practical solution. The family saved up to purchase a quality minivan and soon found out even this wasn’t up to the task. The van needed conversion features.
The obstacle was cost. The family simply could not afford the conversion upgrades necessary to meet Asa’s special needs. Then, some very special people stepped in.
Joe and Becki Kobi owners and operators of the Mobility Store of Northeast Pennsylvania got wind of Asa’s plight and reached out to their national manufacturing partner FR Conversions of Westminster, Maryland. FR Conversions, Chryslers leading provider of special needs fleet conversions, wasted no time in deciding to help.
After all was said and done, the Kobi’s and FR Conversion committed to provide the McDaniels with a fully converted van for the holidays. So now Asa can enjoy his trips over the river and through the woods to grandmothers house with the same comfort and joy of anticipation of any American child.
